51. Some news

I haven't posted in quite awhile because something pretty exciting has been going on.  I have taken this blog, edited a few things, added others, and it's been rewritten as a book. An excerpt from the book won first place in a non-fiction writing contest, and a literary agent has signed to represent me to try to get it published. Starting next week, it will be going out to publishing houses to see if anyone is interested.  I will keep you posted.

To all of you who have been reading and commenting on the blog:  Thank you. Your encouragement and interest has fueled the writing of all these entries and the production of the book.  If it should be published, you'll eventually see it as "Raising Abel," by Caroline Nash (my pen name); I still want to keep my sons' and my identities secret. I continue to hope that by telling our story, I can help others who may be in the same or similar position.

  5. I love this blog for so many reason. It makes me feel. Anger. Fear. Sadness. Sympathy. I, too, am starting the process of becoming a single foster mother and on one hand this blog scares the bejeezus out of me, but on the other hand it makes me even more determined to try and help these children. Thank you so much for sharing.

  6. Tara, thank you. This is exactly the sort of response I wanted to hear. You have an idea of what you're getting into, and you want to do it anyway. Good for you and so much good luck. If you think of it, please come back and let me know how you're doing. Or, start your own blog! It might be a good way to process the experience. In any case, I'll be thinking about you...

  7. @ Tara, good for you getting the bejeezus scared out of you. Our kids are not better served through rose colored glasses. You have the benefit of learning from other people's experiences and that will be so helpful.
When we adopted our son from Ukraine, everyone's post was so "life is perfect now" while we brought home a tiny little raging thing. We went in thinking love would fix all. No, it won't, but knowledge sure can go a long way.

  8. Your story is amazing... I have spent the better part of the last week reading this blog. I am so glad to hear you've taken steps towards publishing, I myself have been fixated! You are a wonderful mother and I can only hope to find such strength as you and Abel demonstrate. Your knight WILL come along, believe it!! Good things come to those who wait.

I have been checking back to see if there have been any updates, I guess it's been about a month now. Hope things are still going well for you and your boys.

  11. Thanks, all of you! The book is out, now, and I've had a pretty good response! The reviews on Amazon have been... amazing. I hope you all will continue to contribute to this blog as I keep writing about Abel's transition into the world.
